Fano: what to see

Its historic centre, dominated by the majestic Arco d’Augusto and elegant Renaissance palaces, invites you on a journey through time among narrow streets, churches and lively squares such as Piazza XX Settembre, the heart of the city. The Teatro della Fortuna and the Musei Civici di Palazzo Malatestiano bear witness to Fano’s rich artistic and cultural heritage.

A few steps away, the sea welcomes visitors with its two souls: sandy beaches and pebble beaches.

Fano cuisine: tradition and authenticity

Fanesese cuisine is a triumph of authenticity. Its gastronomic symbol is brodetto alla fanese, a tasty fish soup prepared according to tradition, along with specialities such as vongole alla marinara, baccalĂ  in umido and the historic moretta fanese, the fishermen’s coffee with a dash of brandy. Land dishes, such as cappelletti in broth and crescia marchigiana, complete a culinary offering that will delight every palate.

A perfect destination in every season

Fano in summer

Summer in Fano is an experience that engages all the senses. The City of Fortune, overlooking the Adriatic Sea, is transformed into a lively seaside resort where sea, culture and entertainment come together in a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere.

The days begin on the beach, perfect for those who love the sun and relaxation, while in the evening the promenades come alive with the bars and restaurants on the harbour.

The historic centre remains alive with events, markets, shows and guided tours. Events of particular note include La Fano Jazz By The Sea (jazz festival) and La Fano dei Cesari (Roman historical re-enactment, period costumes and chariot races). Fano has a soul of its own that is waiting to be experienced.

Fano in winter

When winter envelops the Marche region, Fano shows a different side, more intimate and authentic, but equally charming. Far from the liveliness of summer, the City of Fortune reveals its more intimate and cultural soul, offering a welcoming atmosphere steeped in history, flavour and tradition.

The streets of the historic centre, adorned with lights and decorations, become the ideal place for pleasant walks.

During the Christmas period, Fano dresses up for the festivities: the Christmas Market and Santa’s Village. In January and February, winter lights up with the Fano Carnival, one of the oldest and most beloved in Italy. Allegorical floats, bright colours and the traditional throwing of sweets enliven the streets.

Fano in winter is a different discovery: a city that invites you to slow down, enjoy the warmth of Marche hospitality and experience the beauty of the cold season through culture, flavours and traditions.
